Since announcing our partnership with the Greggs Foundation earlier this year, we have proudly been supporting the Breakfast Club at Hillside Community Primary School, close to our office in Skelmersdale, providing its pupils with a healthy breakfast each morning to get their days off to the best possible start.
Greggs is one of our longstanding customers, with which we proudly share many of the same values. Supporting its foundation through funding the set-up and running of a Breakfast Club was, therefore, an easy choice for us to make.
We were lucky enough to visit Hillside School recently to witness its Breakfast Club in action, meeting some of the children to see firsthand how much our support is helping them. We were particularly touched to receive handmade thank you cards with personal messages from the staff and pupils which really brought home why we got involved with the initiative.
Speaking about our partnership with the Greggs Foundation, our managing director, Andrew Moses, said: “We are delighted to be working with our customer Greggs to support the great work it does through the Greggs Foundation. We have always been passionate about making a positive impact in our local communities and are therefore so pleased that the first Breakfast Club which we are sponsoring is just five minutes from our office.”
“The response we have already received from Hillside has been brilliant, and it is safe to say that all our colleagues have been very moved by the messages from the pupils. We look forward to being very active with our support of the breakfast club and other initiatives at the school.”
In response to growing concerns that children were attending school without having had any food, Greggs established its Breakfast Club initiative in 1999 to support pupils’ positive learning and development. There are now over 680 breakfast clubs across the UK, providing free breakfasts to more than 44,000 children every school day. Although many Breakfast Clubs are funded directly by the Greggs Foundation, as well as donations from Greggs colleagues, additional support is still required to help reach as many communities as possible.
