The Challenge

When a leading fragrance and flavour manufacturer embarked on a new global Manufacturing Operation Management (MOM) project to streamline its manufacturing activities, it turned to us as a trusted advisor to support the internal team.  The business was operating four different Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), to run the different processes within its 18 manufacturing facilities across America and Europe. With some of the systems in place for more than 25 years, they were very rigid solutions with limited possibilities for development to meet current requirements.The existing system purely covered compounding and weighing of raw materials and, looking to standardise its MES, the manufacturer expanded the scope for the new solution to also include Equipment Management, Scheduling and Inventory Management.

The Solution

Having previous positive experiences of The Config Team, through our work delivering our mobility solution, PreBilt, at the UK site, the manufacturer enlisted our support again for this project, to provide an independent review of the landscape, along with SAP integration advice.

  • Provided an independent review of the existing SAP WM solution to assess necessary changes to facilitate MOM integration.
  • Presented recommendations on how the inventory processes could be optimised to assist the MOM integration.
  • Supported the internal team with the project scoping document and project requirements for the MOM vendor bid process.
  • Advised on the critical budgetary factors and project governance that should be incorporated into the project requirements.
  • Worked with the internal SAP COE team to review the submitted bids, assessing their integration capabilities, ability to work with the required technology and understanding of SAP inventory processes.
